My name is Anthony Candelario and I was born in Toronto and grew up in Markham.

In 2008 I graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Ryerson University was where I first learned of Engineers Without Borders Canada (EWB). This was the group that could allow me to combine my interests in engineering and international development. I was fortunate enough to become the first President of the EWB chapter at Ryerson and, with a team of very talented and amazing people, we set the groundwork for students at Ryerson to apply their skills towards poverty reduction and international development. I’ve also continued my involvement by joining the Toronto Chapter of EWB.

After graduating I was again very fortunate to enter the Leadership Development Program for Engineers within Eaton’s Electrical Sector. I wanted to join a company that was strong on Corporate Social Responsibility and Values. The last two years were spent rotating among various projects and taking on different roles in Operations Excellence, Motor Control Centre Engineering, and Product Development.

Beginning this summer I will be rejoining Engineers Without Borders as a Long-Term Overseas Volunteer (a.k.a. African Program Staff) to spend the next year taking on the role of a development worker in Sub-Saharan Africa.
